Glazed Sectional Garage Doors
The rise in the demand for glazed or 'glass' garage doors has been enormous recently and Samson Doors have no lack of options to choose from. When someone asks for a glass garage door there are many questions to be clear on answers first before the door can be properly specified and the concept of a mainly glass garage door obviously throws up some serious practicality and safety issues. Major manufacturers of doors all now produce something that can be described as mainly glazed and Samson Doors have fitted many of these types of doors to many various applications and buildings over the last 21 years.
One of the main issues we see is very little information and resource available for customers (especially architects) requiring these heavily glazed doors for domestic applications. The truth is the same doors are generally used in both commercial and domestic applications it is usually only the colours and control methods that get domesticated. Many colour brochures exist showing very nice looking doors with high specifications in terms of safety and security but they generally are all shown installed to commercial premises such as car showrooms and the like.
Samson Doors specialise in finding the right door for clients especially when the aesthetics are important as well as a high quality product.It is all too easy to find something that may look good for a few months and then turn out to be a complete nightmare as it falls apart in front of your eyes. Making a large door with mainly glazing in it does present serious challenges in terms of structural integrity especially when it is to be used regularly and some manufacturers perhaps are a little careless when producing a door too quickly without proper testing and development time. We have used a Hormann ALRF42 glazed sectional door, which is technically an industrial door by definition but only because it uses larger, more robust operating mechanisms and springs. Apart from that is is still a sectional overhead door using 42mm thick sectional panels. This door has double glazed polycarbonate sections with crystal glazing so no one can see inside the garage but the light still enters. The aluminium framework is finished in RAL 7012 in this example and the Hormann NT60 side door is a perfect match and a good width too. The door is electrically operated using the powerful tried and tested Hormann Supramatic H remote control operator system controlled by remote control hand transmitters. I think we all agree the overall effect is stunning!

Our client wanted to use a fully glazed door with a wicket (pedestrian) door built in to give access to the garden and also provide a lot of natural light into the kitchen with easy access in and out via a pedestrian door.
The Hormann ALR F42 once again was used with triple glazing and clear polycarbonate inserts. The aluminium frameowork was painted in the ever popular RAL 7016 anthracite grey and a wicket door inset. The door had the extra Thermoframe sealing system for the top and sides to maximise weather protection and insulation and again we think the overall effect is absolutely stunning.
A small transom section was fitted above the door as the entire door was installed inbetween the opening so the spring balance mechanism was underneath the lintel support. Ths transom was manufactured with the door for a perfect match including the glazing inserts, all triple glazed. We also installed a Markilux 1500 retractable patio awning over the door area to provide shading when required.
