An insulated steel doorset will inevitably offer far more than just thermal insulation for a heat and cold barrier. The double skinned steel construction can provide additional acoustic properties as well as overall integrity and therefore security. Higher performance fire ratings such as the EI category offer flame protection but also thermal protection too.
- Better overall construction and integrity
- Energy efficiency inside your building or offices
- Secondary benefits such as better weather sealing and acoustic properties
More recently the requirements for the thermal value of an external doorset for any new commercial building has dictated a minimum U value of 1.6 W/m²K. Energy conservation and cost savings are all far more important now and properly manufactured steel doorsets can contribute a massive amount towards this. With or without glazing and side elements or top transoms we can provide doors to comply with the most stringent U values for any property.
Some steel door options available from Samson offer:
- Insulated single and double doorsets up to 3m x 4m
- Energy and cost savings from fully compliant insulated doorsets
- EN1634-1 achieving 120 minutes fire integrity and 90 minutes fire insulation
- ISO12567-1 achieving a UD value as low as 0.83 W/m2/K° but typically 1.3/4 W/m2/K°
- Door leaves between 45mm and 65mm thick
- Insulated and Fire Integrity in one door - EI specifications
- Standard and Purpose made sizes
- Almost ANY Ral or BS Colour
- Massive choice of glazing options and window styles
If you are having an external doorset for a fire/emergency exit, then why not also have it insulated? If you are specifying high security external steel doors for your building, then why not also have them insulated? Insulation is gradually forming a more important part of thermal transfer prevention with fire rated doors in the UK and although not a requirement yet, like it is in Europe, the reasoning and logic behind it is obvious. It is highly likely that the UK will move towards fire doors being thermally insulated, as well as preventing the spread of fire with flames. We have a huge range of insulated steel doorset models, many of which will also have another primary feature and purpose. External doors are obviously the most popular focus for thermal insulation but there are also internal doors where insulation is important too.
Part L of the UK building regulations include the energy efficiency of doors and windows installed. The main changes aim to reduce the maximum U-value performance from 1.8 W/m2K to 1.6 W/m2K. These modifications also focus on decreasing carbon emissions in new buildings compared to current standards. For offices and other buildings with high volumes of staff inside, sometimes 24 hours a day the efficiency of the doors and windows is obvious, even to also keep the building cooler in the hotter months.
Samson offer one of the widest ranges of insulated steel doors and can also provide insulated roller shutter, folding and sectional doors to accompany these steel doorsets.
