Samson Doors Product Overview
Samson Door Products Overview
Samson Doors began in 1994 to provide steel and aluminium roller shutter doors and security roller shutters for a wide variety of uses on a wide variety of buildings.
We also supplied and installed insulated doors such as sectional overhead doors, hinged doors and sliding doors.
We have always sold physical security products such as retractable steel grilles, steel bars and security shutters for any property requiring a solid security solution to prevent a burglary rather than alarm others once it has taken place.
More recently we now offer a refined and wider variety of the same products and a few new ones but still all mainly manufactured from either steel or aluminium. Domestic, commercial and industrial doors for the 21st century which are compliant and generally a higher specification than the majority of doors available in the UK all simply sold to a low price.
Roller Shutter Doors
All made to measure and varying from a very simple single skin steel rolling shutter right up to a high specification double skinned insulated roller shutter. Available in any sizes up to a massive 36 metres wide and 12 metres high!!
Up to around 5m x 5m most roller shutter doors are available as manual or electric operation and above this size they are all electrically operated and should be for convenience, safety and security.
A roller shutter door offers a neat solution to any opening as there are no internal tracks or any swing out action during operation. It is a neat, vertical lift operation with the roller curtain neatly rolled up at high level, often in a hood cover for safety and increased weather protection.
Recent Developments
It is now possible to obtain ‘high speed’ roller shutter doors quite readily rather than the old method of adding a fabric high speed curtain behind a normal roller shutter door giving 2 doors and the maintenance involved. The latest high speed roller doors available will be insulated to give the curtain strength and also very secure because of their design.
Downsides?
There are may very cheap and badly assembled roller shutter doors on the UK market as it is a relatively easy product to buy in component form to assemble yourself but the only components available are mainly of a very cheap specification and the total sum of all these cheap, low alit parts makes a very poor product indeed. A low quality roller shutter door in any application will cause al sorts of ongoing issues after a short period of time. Be very aware of what you buy when looking at roller shutter doors of any size!!
Sectional Overhead Doors
All sectional doors are made to measure in width, with some benefits to some relatively standard heights depending on the manufacturer. They are all double skinned steel sandwich construction with a foam filled core for insulation and the sandwich panel can vary from 40mm thick to 100mm thick for varying levels on U values and thermal efficiency.
Most doors can be manual or electric operated at most sizes available.
The double skinned construction means strength in the panel and a sectional overhead door will provide a far better and more robust door solution than many others and has the advantage of large vision panels if required and other panel features including ventilation slots, nearly full vision with large glazing sections, security and sound insulation too.
The weather protection is also far greater as the door design enables full use of large rubber seals around all sides which are fully engaged when the door closes down.
Recent Developments
Like the roller door is is also possible with modern technology in motor drives to get higher speed sectional doors and even ‘spiral’ doors, a kind of hybrid roller door using sectional door type panels for insulation, strength and security. No need for a fabric high speed curtain behind the sectional door. have 2 doors in one with extra benefits added.
The latest technology in modern glazing means you can have sectional doors with very high levels of clear vision and light which are ideal for retail showrooms and other uses.
Pedestrian doors built into the main door design are now available with an almost zero threshold at only 10mm high!! The pedestrian door will provide easy access on foot into and out the building without opening the main door and the best doors are also very side as standard unlike older pedestrian doors built into roller shutter doors which only allow small, slim people access with their reduced size design and operation.
Downsides?
The internal tracking is really only the downside where some buildings cannot easily accommodate the tracking required for these doors. The tracking can be specified anything from a standard 90 degrees right through to 180 degrees, or straight up the wall in other words.
Again, there are some low priced cheap sectional doors sold in the UK using a very generic panel with low quality paint finishing and questionable mechanism quality with a hybrid mixture of standard components not necessarily tested together as one assembled door.
The electric motor drive is also a large part of the longevity of such a door
Sliding and Folding Doors
Made to measure in every way these are a great door solution so often overlooked as an option for many buildings.
Most of the sliding and folding doors are like the sectional door with a double skinned steel construction providing strength, insulation and security. A straight sliding doors will provide a great solution to many buildings whether installed inside or outside the external structure.
Effortless operation from large rolling wheels either top or bottom mounted give many years of trouble free use and the very lowest of maintenance required.
You can also add a pedestrian door into the main panel and this will provide a great solution to many busy factories and warehouses and workshops with regular pedestrian use rather than vehicles.
Sliding and folding doors can be manufactured up to very large sizes with various methods of overlapping and are frequently used in aircraft hangars and ship yards.
Recent Developments
Just like the sectional doors the material technology has allowed far larger glazing sections to be used as well as some thicker door panels for higher insulation.
Downsides?
There are not many downside to a sliding door but folding doors perhaps have potential issues with the parking of the panels when opened fully. Larger sizes doors using bottom tracking can also potentially suffer from debris on the floor affecting the door travel but using a raised profile tends to combat this issue, think of a train type track system rather than a sunken U channel in the floor attracting dirt and small stones.
Hinged Steel Doorsets
The traditional door for so many openings and readily available as standard or purpose made sizes. Side hinged doors are available in single and double leaf configurations depending on size and application. The main focus in the 21st century is on the doorset’ aspect, the concept of a complete, factory built, compliant door set manufactured in one place and tested as an assembled one piece product. How else can a modern hinged door be tested and approved with either security, acoustic, insulation and emergency exit certifications if it isn’t a one piece product made to the exact same specification every time with assembly to very strict tolerances and specifications?
Steel is far more robust than timber, Upvc and aluminium for a hinged door offering all the properties you want in a door generally and with modern paint methods and modern laminate finishes so many steel doorsets are now a very attractive option for commercial and domestic properties.
Recent Developments
it is possible with modern manufacturing methods and materials t have a steel doorset which is a mixture of offerings. An insulated, acoustic security door for example using the strength of the steel and the properties of the infill material and outer frame to provide a tested door offering a combination of properties. This may also include windows and other features.
We provide some very strong fully glazed steel doorsets for commercial use offering fire ratings and security ratings too. Again, steel is stronger than aluminium when it comes to hinged doors.
Downsides?
There are not many downsides to a steel hinged doorset, it is what it is except as a hinged doorset it is very strong and reliable in operation. Again however, we have to highlight the fact there are a lot of ‘imported’ steel doorsets in the UK claiming an awful lot in terms of security and other features. A 9 point locking doorset really isn’t much use if the 9 locking points in the door all go through one very dubious and weak locking mechanism which is far too easy to break and override. Cheap internal components in a hinged door will also ultimately fail quite easily and not be a simple replacement, effectively writing off the whole door.
Make sure you buy a reputable door brand using recognised locking methods and key components. A cheap steel doorset made from thinner cheap galvanised steel sheet panels will probably not offer much in the way of effective resistance or other features in the long run.
Samson also supply various domestic garage doors generally chosen for their enhanced security features and high specification build quality. Up and Over, Sectional, Roller, Side Hinged, Round the Corner and an ever increasing range of entrance doors and pedestrian doorsets to compliment so many of the garage doors in style and finish for the perfect look on any home.
