With energy prices continuing to be a significant impact on UK businesses, the Hormann Docking Before Opening System (DOBO) offers an energy - savings option for loading bay operations.

The DOBO system was developed to allow vehicles to dock in a loading bay before their rear doors are opened, considerably decreasing heat loss via the bay doors while also increasing secuirty and safety.

The Hormann docking assistance system guides drivers into position in the loading bay using sensors in the loading bay door that are linked to traffic lights.Green suggests the driver to reverse into the bay, amber shows that the lorry is almost there, and red suggests the best docking location. Safety is improved through the removal of the requirement for the driver to exit the cab to open the doors before reversing into the bay.

Once the lorry is in the loading bay, an inflatable dock seal covered it on three sides, providing an effective barrier against outside environment. The vehicle is now closed, with both the loading bay and truck doors remaining closed.

The Hormann DOBO system places the loading door in a recess in front of the dock leveller and behind the dock buffers. When the loading door is opened, the specifically designed dock buffers can be placed beneath the lower level of the vehicle doors. This enables the doors to be unlocked and opened into the loading bay's recess. The dock leveler is subsequently positioned, allowing the unloading/loading operation to start.

As an extra energy saving measure, the DOBO system can be used with the Hormann HTL ISO dock leveller. Designed to prevent energy losses, the HTL2 ISO can provide up to 55% more thermal insultaion than a normal dock leveller in both closed and loading modes.

In adiition to having a 50mm insulated beneath the platform, the HTL20 has an exclusive insulated panel under the moving lip that is still pending patent. The lip's 390mm overalap length allows of simple gap bridging between the leveller and the truck, providing a range of loading options while perserving room temperature. The vertical edges, gap seals, and grooves have all been perfectly sealed to prevent any possibility of heat transference at these place.

The Hormann DOBO system and the HTL2 ISO dock leveller work especially well together in temperature controlled applications like cold storage. The DOBO is also an excellent choice in situations where security is crucial, like customs facilities and the distribution of high value goods.
