The Hormann range of domestic sectional garage doors is probably the widest and most comprehensive range available anywhere in Europe. Hormann are one of the largest manufacturers of insulated sectional garage doors in the world and being a German manufacturing company produce doors as their own statement says with 'quality without compromise'.
The LPU42 sectional doors are available in high quality steel and timber in sizes up to 7500mm wide and 3000mm high in standard UK sizes, standard metric European sizes and also made to order by either cutting down standard size doors (with limitations) or simply ordering bespoke sizes from the factory.
The SPU F42 is a mixture of both commercial gear and domestic door panels to produce doors capable of the largest sizes and with high performance electric motors too. We also offer the ALRF42 and variations of this fully glazed sectional door concept. The 'glass garage door'.
Hörmann's elegant automatic sectional doors open vertically, meaning you have more space both inside and in front of the garage. Those who think the tracks are a nusiance and intrude in the garage should examine carefully the actual path of the tracking, because generally they will follow the roof because they rise a lot higher than an normal up and over door. The door panels will rise and then be far higher above the head. You can specify most doors for aditional cost to have a special track arrangement which can be higher or even straight up the wall
Sectional doors fit anywhere, no matter whether your garage opening is rectangular or chamfered, or whether it has a segmental or Norman arch. The other great benefit is that sectional doors are made in standard sizes, meaning it is easy to modernise if you feel the need.
The basic door design offers a much greater degree of overall security, practicality and flexibility in sizing than most other types of garage doors. They can be installed to almost any shape of garage opening and nearly always provide a perfect seal with integrated tough rubber weatherseals in the steel fixing sub frame system.
- Excellent insulating properties due to the thick sandiwches, saving you money on your heating bills and keeping the cold out of your home and garage.
- Hormann LPU doors have great acoustic insulation too, lowering the volume of sound travelling in and outside the door. The LPU67 doors have even thicker panels and greater insulation.
- Can withstand hurricane-force winds of up to 120 km/h.
- All round seals, preventing rain from entering a closed Hormann sectional door.

Sizes and Measuring
Hormann sectional garage doors are all priced and ordered using the internal fixing frame opening size. The imperial order references for all UK sized Series 2000 doors are the nearest feet and inches size to the exact metric size. (e.g. a 7'0" x 7'0" order size Hormann sectional in metric is actually a 2134mm wide x 2125mm high inbetween the steel fixing frame.
The overall width and height with the fixing frame is always bigger than the order size and every Hormann sectional door will be supplied with a top steel fascia 90mm in depth matching the door panel finish and colour to help finish installations where the lintel height is a little higher than the ordering size.
Go to our measuring guide page for more information. Remember - sectional garage doors do not go through the opening during opening and closing and can be installed on smaller or larger garage openings than the actual order size, you do not necessarily need a made to order size.
Operating Mechanisms
A Hormann sectional garage door can have 3 standard and 1 special order type of springing and operating mechanisms and this usually depends on the door order size but also can be changed to accomodate internal headroom issues in the garage.
The Z track mechanism is the standard gear supplied with all Hormann sectional doors up to 3048mm (10ft) wide and gives the easiest installation as there is no requirement for structural fixings above the top door panel. The springs are neatly seated in the side framework with cables lifitng the door going from the spring over top rollers and down to the bottom panel rollers.
Headroom requirement for the Z track system is only 100mm (115 for electric operation)
The N track mechanism is standard on all doors over 3048mm (10ft) wide and has a tension spring mechanism seated above the top door panel requiring minimum of 2 fixings, and more for larger doors, for the spring support brackets. This type of gear requires 210mm of headroom (225 with automation) and does place the tracks higher than the Z track so can be useful when you want the tracks higher up out of the way. It can be ordered as an option on doors smaller than 3048mm wide.
The L track mechanism (low headroom) is used when the ceiling height internally is too low for the N track system and the door is wider than 3048mm. The springs are right at the back of the tracks and will be more intrusive in the garage as they hang slightly lower than the track height. Headroom requirement is only 100mm again with no fixings required at the front, only for the front fascia panel.
The H track mechanism is a special order and is used when the tracks ae required to be as high as possible to get them out of the way in garages with high ceilings. You can specify exacxtly where you need the spring and track curve to be in order to optimise your internal garage dimensions. The cost is usually about 15% on the door price only. This system always uses a front mounted torsion spring mechanism.
The different designs available throughout the entire range ensure you can get the door design, colour and size you need for your garage opening and style of home. Choose from the very comprehensive LPU 42 range with all the options of windows, handles, colours, designs and sizes right up to a massive 6500mm wide! Choose from the LPU 67 range if you want ulitmate performance in sound and heat insulation.
