The Samson Apollo folding door is designed for larger openings and has a top and bottom track system for the very best stability when operating or when closed.
Double skinned steel sandwich panels with polyurethane foam core provides the basis for the 52mm thick door leaves in this door system. It is an insulated folding door, although does not have specific U values as a performance declaration.
Manufactured in the town of Sequals in Italy, the Apollo door, along with other folding and sliding steel doors we offer, are made by some of the finest industrial door manufacturers in Europe, and because of this, you can be guaranteed of a high quality door.
With over thirty years of experience, the Apollo is the culmination of this experience, resulting in a hugely durable and reliable product that can operated safely at all times.
The Apollo folding door hangs and slides from the top, yet also runs in a floor track, and this ensures maximum stability and ease of use at any size. The mechanism also prevents the door from becoming easily worn and difficult to operate through age. With the various floor track options and high quality materials used, the door should remain stable through adverse conditions
Sizes
All Apollo doors are purpose built to the exact millimetre, and this ensures an accurate fit as long as all site measurements are carried out properly. The Apollo has almost unlimited size capability with the standard 52mm thick door used for most sizes up to around 31 metres wide and with a maximum height of 6 metres. When you require higher doors then the panel thickness will start to increase for stability.
For all the various sizes come different configurations for the panels, whether that is single folding all one way or bi folding, or even an uneven split, all depending on the requirements for the opening and surroundings and intended daily use.
There are many different surface finishes available on the Apollo. This includes smooth surface finish colours, stucco coatings, wood-like finishes and more, with RAL optional colours also available upon request.
In most cases the external finish is the focus whilst the internal face of the door panels is generally a light grey finish as standard.
Electric or Manual Operation
The Apollo can be specified with or without electric motor drive operation. Most applications don’t tend to require automation because the reason for choosing the folding door in the first place was partial opening for most of the time when being used.
If the door is to be used for an opening where it requires several full openings a day then electric operation is to be considered for sure. We can provide single or three phase electric motor drive units with various configurations to align with the track arrangements required.
Control in the most basic form is with a hold to run, internal push button system or external key switch. With a hold to run logic there is no requirement for safety detection devices keeping costs down and far less complex electronics involved for future maintenance.
Pedestrian Access Door
Just as for the Adone folding door system, the Apollo can have a pedestrian door incorporated into any of the door leaves to provide fast and easy access on foot. You could even have more than one on a large door if required - Entry and Exit only maybe?
In nearly all commercial and industrial buildings we have found over many years, most customers jump at the chance of a pedestrian door within their main door simply because of the easier and faster access but also because of not having to operate the main door until necessary for full opening access.
In the Apollo folding door you can either have a pedestrian door cut into a main door panel which is then smaller and has to include a threshold or you have a door leaf cut at a height of around 2100mm and then include additional hinging and furniture to offer a hinged door access.
This method of course means no threshold so is usually preferred and also give a wider pedestrian access size. It is also possible to have a door leaf at one end of the whole door made into a large full height pedestrian door with certain configurations if required.
Fire Exit
The most obvious benefit of having a pedestrian door is also to have the door with panic furniture and then to use it as part of the fire evacuation strategy for the building - Instant exit from the area, without operating a single part of the main folding door.
Windows
The Apollo can be built with a wide variation of windows included in one or all the door leaves. These provide vision and light to the outside of course for safety and practicality.
We also offer an Apollo Vision folding door which is mainly fully glazed for showrooms and other applications where maximum vision and light is required.
Glazing options are also possible with clear or opaque and special options on request.
Many customers put the windows in the higher parts of the door for light but keep people from viewing inside the building. For safety and to see who might be outside before opening the door the windows are set at head heights.
Summary
The Apollo folding door is perfect for so many large openings on commercial and industrial buildings and just like the Adone it offers features not possible on so many other industrial doors in the UK. It is a sturdy, insulated, quiet operating, durable industrial door system, generally with low maintenance requirements.
Made to measure and able to be tailor made in so many ways to suit, this door should be a joy to use every day unlike so many other doors which simply have to be opened fully every time and can be slow or noisy.
